One Year Down, One Day At A Time Coming Up

No, this isn’t a happy birthday to my many wonderful Aries friends, though I send cheer your way. This is the day, a year ago, that I began this little blog. It has no doubt put more deadlines in my life than is necessary. But idle hands are the devil’s playground, I’ve heard.

The question is do I continue? And after several months and more than 180 posts, I am pretty sure I will continue to share my thoughts with anyone who is interested. And fortunately, there is a program that keeps track of such things. When I bore the socks off everyone, the stats will tell me and I will go quietly.

What has surprised me most about the blog is that while the numbers show Life, Death and Fog remains relatively inconsequential in the grand scheme of things, it draws some regular readers from around the world — some of them in extremely remote or at least unlikely places. I like that. And many of these faraway visitors seem to return from time to time. That’s even better.

I suspect that the blog will continue to evolve as I figure out what visitors enjoy and what turns on the light in what’s left of my brain. I suspect what I write will continue to have more than one focus though, from my limited marketing experience, that is not a wise thing to do. I’ll certainly continue to focus on crime fiction and film. Also writing and publishing. I will also continue to write about and photograph San Francisco’s neighborhoods and probably reminisce now and again about growing up in Indianapolis. Some marketing of my mysteries will no doubt sneak in from time to time even though I am well aware such mentions will not put my books on anyone’s best seller list.

My wish, before blowing out the candle, is that visitors feel free to comment, that they know I look forward to thoughts other than my own. Corrections, suggestions, criticism and additions are more than welcome. I’d love to hear more from crime fiction readers and writers. Please join in when you have a moment.
